Helan Hong Wine Dinner: Celebrating the Elegance of Ningxia

As night falls, a unique “Helan Hong Wine Dinner” gracefully opens at the Michelin-recommended restaurant, Sang Kee. Over thirty distinguished guests and wine enthusiasts gather to embark on a journey across the vast terroir of Ningxia in a warm and elegant atmosphere.

We were honored to have several prominent guests share their insights at the event. The attendance of National Committee Member and Legislative Council Mr So Cheung Wing SBS JP further added luster to the occasion.

Mr. Yuen Tim,  director at Ningxia Helan Mountain International Wine Ltd., guided guests through time and space, revealing a hidden gem for wine enthusiasts—the Helan Mountain East Foothill. The region's red wines are known for their rich, full-bodied flavors and complex layers, while the white wines are smooth and fragrant. This exceptional quality is attributed to the unique natural environment of the area: deep sandy loam interspersed with gravel, excellent drainage, large temperature variations between day and night, and abundant sunlight create the ideal conditions for grape growth.

In this golden wine region, Helan Hong Winery stands as a beacon. Its architecture features modern lines infused with traditional spirit, quietly located in the birthplace of the industry—Yongning. It has become not only a center for winemaking but also a dazzling landmark in its own right.

The perfect combination of these conditions has garnered international recognition for this region, located between latitudes 37°43′ and 39°23′, regarded as a cradle for producing top-quality wines. This area, once a vital thoroughfare of the Silk Road and the historical site of the splendid Xi Xia Kingdom, has recently gained cultural depth with the Xi Xia royal tombs being listed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Today's Ningxia boasts diverse tourism resources, from vast desert adventures and unique winery tours to breathtaking stargazing experiences, each showcasing its unique charm.

Ms. Zhang Shiyi, the Wine Ambassador of Ningxia Helan Mountain East Foothill, thoughtfully guided guests through a tasting of several “Helan Hong” fine wines. Her professional and engaging commentary brought to life the terroir stories and winemaking techniques behind each wine, allowing each guest not only to savor the exquisite wines but also to deeply appreciate the essence of the Helan Mountain East Foothill.
