About Chateau Huahao

Chateau Huahao, whose name embodies the spirit of China (“Hua”) and the heritage of Ningxia (“Hao,” referring to the ancient Xixia dynasty), is located in the Helan Mountain’s East Foothill wine region of Ningxia. The winery began planting grapes in 2003 and was officially established in 2006. It is one of the first to plant Marselan and now cultivates the largest area dedicated to this varietal. 

The Winemaking Philosophy of Huahao

Chateau Huahao is committed to becoming a global leader in high-quality Marselan production, with the goal of establishing Marselan as a flagship wine of China. By early 2025, the winery’s Marselan had already garnered an impressive 6 Grand Gold Medals and 31 Gold Medals in various international wine competitions.

  • In 2017, the winery launched its first Marselan wine. This exceptional wine quickly rose to prominence, earning the highest award for excellence in quality at the China Fine Wine Competition.
  • In 2023, the Marselan wine from Chateau Huahao won first place at the Brussels International Marselan Wine Competition.
  • In 2024, Chateau Huahao is ranked among the top 50 wineries in China by Hurun.

Chief Winemaker

Jiang Tao

Jiang Tao is a distinguished winemaker in China's wine industry. In 1995, he enrolled in Northwest A&F University to study pomology, later specializing in winemaking, which marked the beginning of his career. In 2011, he served as the chief engineer for the COFCO Great Wall Wine (Ningxia) project. In 2015, he resigned as COFCO's chief winemaker to become a winemaking consultant and founded Giantmonte (Zhenshan) Winery. His wines have won numerous awards in domestic and international competitions. In 2023, he was honored as China's Most Promising Winemaker.

Cheng Qian

Cheng Qian's wine career began in 1997 when he moved from a technician position at Shuxin Forest Farm in Qingtongxia, Ningxia, to become a vineyard base manager, entering the wine industry. While holding various government positions over the years, he maintained close relationship with Ningxia's wine sector. In 2003, foreseeing the industry's growth period, he persuaded his family to cultivate wine grapes, becoming one of Ningxia's earliest professionals in this field. In 2018, he resigned from public office to take over Chateau Huahao (established by his father-in-law), continuing his family's winemaking legacy.

Li Demei

Li Demei is a distinguished expert in China’s wine industry. He graduated from Northwest A&F University and studied winemaking technique at Château Palmer (Bordeaux, France). Recognized as an "Ambassador of Chinese Wine and Culture," he has contributed significantly to technical innovation and cultural promotion.
