When Su Dongpo Meets Helan Hong :
Over twenty literature and wine enthusiasts embarked on a dialogue spanning a thousand years—the encounter between Chinese literature and Ningxia wine. This Su Dongpo-themed book tasting not only allowed us to revisit the wisdom of 《松風亭悟道》, but also to savor the unique poetry of Ningxia's terroir through the exquisite Helan Hong.
Su Dongpo's Philosophy:
At the beginning of the event, we discussed the question, "Is there really no place to rest here?"
Su Shi, while gazing at a distant pavilion in fatigue, suddenly realized: Why be attached to a specific endpoint in life? True freedom lies in allowing oneself to stop at any moment. This insight resonated deeply with everyone present, especially in a fast-paced city like Hong Kong. Are we often chasing after a "pavilion," forgetting to appreciate the scenery along the way?
Modern Interpretation of Ningxia's Terroir:
After the literary sharing, director of China Ningxia Helan Mountain International Wine Ltd Alan Yuen guided us into the eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains.
Through vivid explanations and visual materials, we learned about:
1.Unique Geography: The Helan Mountains shield against cold currents, the Yellow River nourishes the vines, and the temperature differences between day and night allow the grapes to develop rich flavors.
2.Varietal Characteristics: Ningxia Cabernet Sauvignon combines the "grandeur of the desert" with the "elegance nurtured by the Yellow River," featuring delicate yet powerful tannins.
3.Latest Trends: Innovations such as organic farming, local yeast experiments, and pottery aging.
We then tasted Helanhong Classic Dry Red Wine, each glass telling the story of Ningxia's terroir.
Many friends shared: "It turns out that Chinese wine is not only for drinking but also for 'reading.'"
Event Reflection:
This event was not just a wine tasting; it was a discussion on life attitudes—
Like Su Shi, who embraced openness: There is no pavilion one must reach in life; stopping at the right moment allows us to savor the present.
Like Ningxia wine, which is resilient: Unique flavors can still be crafted in seemingly harsh environments.
We look forward to continuing to use wine as a medium to explore the wonderful connections between Chinese literature and terroir.
